Support Groups for Children and Adults

As you move along your journey towards hope and healing, being with others who are experiencing what you are provides comfort and support. I lead a children’s grief group, an adults’ grief group, and support groups for children who have had a sports related concussion (mTBI). All support groups are specific to age and type of needs of the clients. Feeling supported and heard by others are the goals of the support groups.

Grief Groups for Children/Adults

Grief or anticipatory grief is challenging and can be devastating for both children and adults. It can be overwhelming physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. Perhaps you or your children are sleeping more than usual or find that you are unable to fall or stay asleep. You notice changes in your appetite or moods. Your children may experience a range of intense emotions including sadness, anger, fear, and guilt. Most children who experience grief (e.g. about death) often feel isolated and unable to talk about it with peers who have not had a similar experience.

Currently, we offer groups for adults who have experienced the death of a relative, partner, friend or a pet.  We work to create an atmosphere that is safe, accepting, non-judgemental.

Goals:

-Creating a warm, safe place to interact with other children and teens experiencing similar thoughts, feelings, and life changes.

-Utilizing various methods for grief expression (art, play, and creative writings).

-Teaching coping skills.

Sports Related Concussion (mTBI) Support Group for Children

The purpose of this support group is to give children who have had one or multiple concussions the opportunity to share their experience in a safe and supportive environment. Connecting with other people who have had similar experiences can be a tremendous aid in the healing process. Anxiety, depression, and isolation can be minimized through the support of others and through the exchange of personal histories and experiences from which to learn and grow.
